Vo Tai Tri: Share your ideas, if you don't make it, you maketh man

“When you have an idea in your mind, put it all in to study and find out about it. That feeling is the awesome things that we often talk about every day. I believe that when ideas are shared, you could succeed, and if they are not, you surely fail”.

These are the words of Vo Tai Tri from Unit 3, whose idea is to build a ride sharing app for people who share the same route, which can help to generate more income, decrease traffic volume, improve traffic jam in big cities.

Vehicle operators in the app can be anyone, if they are free, they can go on the app to find people who also travel on the same route to share the ride. The fellow travelers will sign up and pay for a certain fee.

Although he is a person of many ideas, Vo Tai Tri is rather shy and timid, and seldom shares his thoughts to others. It is partly because he is afraid of being criticized, and of failure. After the seminar of Startup Studio, Tri was inspired and encouraged by speaker Nguyen Ngoc Tuan: “I decided to share because if I don't make it, I still maketh man. Apparently, I got to learn a lot."

With the developer mindset, Tri has always been used to building app, not other issues like finding customers, business operating or marketing. After 2 meetings with Startup Studio, presenting and discussing his ideas, Tri had a clearer understanding of his own ideas.

Vo Tai Tri shared his ideas with the representatives of Startup Studio

"After analysis, I realize that my idea is not feasible, as it makes no difference to apps like Grab, Go Viet, while my target range is narrower (only focused on office workers).

"The price of a shared ride might be cheaper, but it might take drivers and riders a lot of time and effort to go around. For convenience, users are willing to spend more money for a professional driver/rider. Also, the marketing expense to attract users is also a challenge to a young startup" - Tri said.

In order to show Tri the feasibility of the idea, Starup Studio helps him study the customer insight based on the user group in Sun*: how many potential customers are there based on distance and their daily travel route...

Though not feasible, Tri said that he still has many ideas in store. More importantly, Tri is confident that he has learned a lot:

- When ideas are shared, you will have more perspectives to consider for improvement. Ideas might seem interesting when you first think about it, but once analysed, you might see that it is not feasible.

- For a product to reach launching stage, there are many factors to reckon like market, revenue, profit, competence... All developers should have an overall view on the product to build better products, especially when Sun* is becoming a Creative Studio.

The guy filled with ideas on how to make things that matter said, 'when an idea pops up, put it all into studying and finding out about it. It was phenomenal, and that is the awesome feeling - the thing we often talk about. I believe that when ideas are shared, you will succeed, and if they are not, you will definitely fail'.
