Warning: Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat Airport repair the runway, flights may be delayed for many hours

According to the latest announcement from BA, all Sun* employees will be entitled to 2 days of paid leave on Thursday (July 23, 2020) and Friday (July 24, 2020), and then return to work from 7/27/2020. This is a holiday scheduled for this year for all Sun* employees, but due to the complicated situation of Covid 19, it was temporarily delayed. 

The 2-day holiday connect to the weekend is an opportunity for many Sunner to return home or plan to travel with family, friends and relatives. A lot of famous tourist destinations in the country such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Con Dao, etc. are chosen by Sunners this time. 

However, according to late information from Noi Bai International Airport, from July 1, the authorities closed the runway 25R/07L of Tan Son Nhat airport and 11L/29R runway of Noi Bai airport to repair and upgrade. 

Although the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam initially affirmed that there was a plan to make the repairs do not affect the travel of people, in fact, the overload at the two airports has beyond the authorities’ prediction. Both people and the airlines are struggling because of flight delays, stuck runways. Many people have to sit on the ground for many hours, and others who can get on the plane also tired of flight arrangements. 

VNA representative said that from the day the runways closed for repair, Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports are always stuck and planes are waiting to take off. OTP (punctuality index) of incoming flights dropped sharply, ranging from 51-68%. A runway closure reduced the frequency of takeoffs at Noi Bai from 32 to 27 flights per hour. Flights to Da Nang, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc are often slower than expected flight time from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Meanwhile, flights to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, passengers may be delayed for up to 2 hours.

From 15:00 on July 20, many flights of Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways and Vietjet Air were delayed 1 to 3 hours.

The runway repair and upgrade for the International Airport Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airport is expected to complete in the end of July.
